Salesforce Automation: Migrating Salesforce Processes Builder and Workflows to Flow

Salesforce has been at the forefront of driving automation and streamlining business processes for organizations worldwide. Over the years, Salesforce Workflows and Process Builder have played a pivotal role in empowering users to automate repetitive tasks and create sophisticated business workflows. However, as Salesforce continues to evolve and enhance its platform, it has announced the end of support for Workflows and Process Builder in Summer ’23. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the implications of this decision, explore the alternatives available, and discuss how Salesforce users can adapt to this change.

The Evolution of Salesforce Automation

Salesforce Workflows and Process Builder have long been relied upon by businesses to automate manual tasks, trigger actions, and streamline complex workflows. Workflows, introduced in Salesforce’s early days, provided a simple way to automate processes based on predetermined criteria. With the advent of Process Builder, a more robust and visual tool, users gained additional capabilities to create complex automation processes with a drag-and-drop interface.

Salesforce’s Shift Towards Lightning Flow

Salesforce has been actively promoting Flows as the next-generation automation tool. Flows provide a more comprehensive and dynamic approach to automation, offering advanced features like dynamic screens, decision elements, and integration with external systems. By phasing out Workflows and Process Builder, Salesforce aims to consolidate its automation capabilities and drive users towards adopting Flows as the go-to solution.

Migrating to Flows

Salesforce provides a migration tool to transition existing workflows and processes to Flows. The migration process involves converting the existing automation rules and logic into the Flows framework. Salesforce recommends taking a systematic approach, starting with a thorough analysis of existing workflows and processes, and then recreating them using Flow’s features and functionalities.  However, there are some things to consider when looking at migrating flows in your org yourself:

  • Conversion can leave some nodes orphaned
  • Converting can create a new flow per workflow or process builder
  • Naming convention does not work well

For these reasons, we recommend bringing in SIG to help.

How Can SIG Help?

Migrating from traditional Workflows or Processes Builders to Flow can be a complex and time-consuming activitiy. That’s where our dedicated team steps in to help you smoothly transition and harness the full potential of Salesforce Flow.  Following the Summer ’23 release, Salesforce users must proactively prepare for the transition away from Workflows and Process Builder. It is crucial to allocate the time and resources to assess current automation processes. Users need to identify dependencies and plan the migration to Lightning Flow.  Additionally, training and upskilling employees on the new automation tools will be essential to ensure a smooth transition and minimize disruption to business operations.   Here’s what our team will do for you:

  • Analyze – take an analysis of your org, it’s complexities and current state to determine best steps for moving forward
  • Build – work in a test environment to build out the changes from your existing Processes and Workflows to Flow
  • Test – provide testing to ensure the new Flows match functionality from the previous methods
  • Deploy – push tested changes to your live environment
  • Document – provide documentation on what was changed with resources for your team
