Bridging the Data Gap: How Seton Hall Revolutionized Its Admissions Process

Seton Hall University is a private, Catholic university in South Orange, New Jersey. Founded in 1856 by Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley and named after his aunt, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Seton Hall is the oldest diocesan university in the United States. It has eight colleges and offers undergraduate programs, graduate programs, and a Law School. This project focused on the College of Health and Medical Sciences.

Challenge

In today’s world, the ability to understand, manage, and forecast the admissions funnel is critical. Having the tools in place that facilitate documentation completion and status is an early predictor of a successful conversion.

The challenge for Seton Hall University was that data and documents originating in the Liaison UNICAS systems were rarely moved and/or tracked from one system to the next. Therefore, the enrollment picture was incomplete.

SOLUTION

This project relied on SIG’s thorough understanding of how to get data and documents out of UNICAS using the Liaison API’s and into Slate for processing in source formats. Jobs were created daily to populate Slate with new statuses and bring over documents from each system. This provided an accurate source of data for all parties involved and removed manual intervention.

The project eliminated the inconsistent, manual process of moving data between two systems. Now the vice-president for graduate admissions has:

  • A clear view of exactly how many students are applying.
  • Applications load automatically.
  • Transcripts staged to Batch Acquire facilitating quick processing.
  • Flexibility in the release of decision letters from the Slate portal.
  • Deposits collected within Slate.
